New Mexico visitors enjoy Central Coast hospitality
The Central Coast Friendship Force Club hosted a group of 20 members
from the New Mexico, USA Club for one week from the 28th October to 4th
November 2010. Our local Exchange Director arranged a varied programme of
activities for the week, commencing with an Official Welcome by Gosford
City Council with a tree planting at Sensory Park in Showground Road,
Gosford. Other activities enjoyed by the American visitors were a trip
to Tobruk Sheep Station at Maroota, morning tea cruise on Lake Macquarie
with a visit to William Dobell Cottage, picnic lunch at Avoca Beach
followed by bare-foot bowls and Melbourne Cup functions. The visit to
the Australian Wildlife Walkabout Park was a great hit with the visitors
because they could get so close to, and interact with our native
wildlife - especially the kangaroos and koalas. The visitors and their
hosts also enjoyed much more together sightseeing the wonderfully unique
Central Coast region.
The New Mexico visitors gave the Central Coast Club a gift of US$200 to
donate to a charity of our choice and the Aspect Central Coast School
for Autism at Terrigal was chosen. The New Mexico Exchange Director Mr.
John Farris presented the cheque to the Principal Janet Millhouse. After
the presentation we were all given a tour of the school and saw first
hand what a wonderful job the teachers and staff are doing.
